EAST BROOKFIELD- Claire M. Prizio,104, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 23,2016 at home.
Claire was born in Brookfield the daughter of Gabriel and Alice (Varone) Prizio. She leaves her brother Gerald of East Brookfield and many nieces & nephews. Claire was predeceased by 5 sisters Melvina,Louise,Mary,Lena and Sylvia and 4 brothers Philip,Ferdinand,William and Raymond.
Claire was a graduate of David Prouty High School and the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1937. She was a WWII US Army Veteran serving as a 2nd Lieutenant Nurse in Wales,England and France from 1944-1945. Claire was stationed in Cheltenham,England at the time of the Normandy invasion.
Claire's Army training served her well as a civilian nurse. She worked for 42 years at Worcester City Hospital where she was first Accident Ward supervisor and later Operating Room supervisor until she retired.
Claire enjoyed traveling the world,caring for her siblings and many other family members. Her spirit and determination will be missed.She made you toe the mark.
A Memorial Mass for Claire will be held on Friday,December 2,2016 at 11:00AM in St.John the Baptist Church N.Brookfield Rd. East Brookfield. Burial will follow in Mary,Queen of the Rosary Cemetery in Spencer. Donations may be made in her memory to Compassus Hospice 15 Midstate Dr. Auburn,MA.01501 or to St.John the Baptist Church 121 Blaine Ave.East Brookfield,MA.01515.
